Behind a double-double performance by 2005 Big Ten Player of the Year Jessica Davenport, No. 7 Ohio State (16-2, 7-1 Big Ten) downed the visiting Badgers (7-13, 1-7 Big Ten) 73-46 Thursday at the Value City Arena.
Davenport led the Buckeyes with 19 points and 14 rebounds and set the Ohio State record for blocks with four in the contest.
'That is a great basketball team,' UW head coach Lisa Stone said. 'Ohio State on paper is just spectacular. They are a powerful team. I thought the pace of the game was just OK. It wasn't up-tempo and that is not Ohio State's style. We hung around for a while. I personally think Jessica Davenport is the best post player in the country.'
The Big Ten defending co-champions held UW to a season-low 43 points on 19-for-65 shooting from the field. Conversely, Ohio State shot .484 percent from the field (29 of 55) and outscored the Badgers 46-16 in the paint and out rebounded the Badgers 41-37.
Sophomore guard Janese Banks returned to the Badger lineup after missing five games due to an injury but finished with just two points. Fellow sophomore guard Jolene Anderson led the Badgers with 12 points and extended her double-digit scoring streak to 20 games.
'With Banks gone, Jolene has had to do everything for us: run point, score, rebound, bring the ball up the floor, defend,' Stone said. 'We expect a lot out of her. When they started to pressure Jolene a little bit more and throw two people at her, it didn't cause as many turnovers as it could have. They made Jolene work for everything she got.'
