Letter to the Editor: Stop the War could use a lesson in respect

A Jan. 25 article regarding Stop the War's claim that the Department of Defense is 'spying' on campus anti-war groups brought an important issue to light that needs to be discussed here on campus. It's an issue of respecting other students.

People who accuse the DOD of spying on anti-war groups need to realize that plastering the entire campus community with flyers, chalk messages and e-mail alerts is hardly keeping an event a secret.

Of course, when the ROTC building has rocks thrown at it by this 'peaceful' organization, events inside the building are going to be shut down. This event was no secret. Unfortunately, the actions of some of the members of Stop the War against their fellow students seem to be a secret in the reporting of this incident.

Every student in this university should be treated with respect. Having a discussion is respectful; encircling a building, calling other students baby-killers and throwing rocks is draconian, wrong and I'm sure not the message the organizers of the event want to send.
