Kimia Lounge, 14 W. Mifflin St., will have to make do with a capacity of 100 people for at least a month longer.
The temporary result comes after the city's Alcohol License Review Committee elected to refer owner Kami Eshraghi's request for an expansion to 160 people to next month's meeting.
Eshraghi, who is best known for his opposition candidacy to Austin King in last year's common council elections, said there was no reason his club should not be allowed to have a capacity of 160 people. He also said he has no plans to change the structure of Kimia lounge.
'Our capacity should be 160,' Eshraghi said. 'We're not planning on changing anything.'
Opponents of the expanded capacity said the Capitol Square area has become too rowdy in recent years as bars and nightclubs have grown.
In addition, the Fuddruckers restaurant replacing Moe's Southwest Grill at 651 State St. will be serving alcohol when it opens in March.
The Committee approved a liquor license after Fuddruckers representative Elliott Stubbendick said alcohol would only make up about 2 percent of the restaurant's business. Stubbendick also said the restaurant would be open for breakfast.
