Badger Bits

Wrestling 

 

 

 

This past weekend, the Badgers had a lot of success at the Dan Gable Open in Oshkosh, WI. Of the seven wrestlers that attended the meet, four placed in the top three of their respective weight classes. This included redshirt freshman Seth Garvin, who won his weight class by going a perfect 3-0 throughout the tournament. 

 

 

 

Freshman Kyle Reeve took third place in the 125-pound weight class and now has an 8-5 record this season. Mike Metzger and Jordan Crass also took third place in their respective weight classes. The Badgers' next match is against Big 10 rival Iowa.

Women's Track 

 

 

 

The women's track team was very successful this past weekend as they had 10 first-place finishes at the Badger Track Classic. This included freshman Jenny Soceka, who broke the four-year-old school record in the pole vault by going 12 feet, 6 1?4 inches. 

 

 

 

Other top finishers included sophomore Venus Washington, who won both the 60 meter dash and the 200 meters. Junior Michelle Bellford took first in both the long jump and the triple jump for the Badgers. With Bellford leading the way, Wisconsin took first and second in the triple jump and swept the long jump.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Men's Track 

 

 

 

The men's track team opened its indoor season with 10 first-place finishes at the Badger Track Classic. One of the first-place finishes was the 1600 meter relay that finished with a time of 3:20.81. They were closely followed by the Badger's second relay team, which finished with a time of 3:21.43.  

 

 

 

Another standout performance was by Alonzo Moore, who won the triple jump with a measurement of 51 feet, 10 inches. This mark gave Moore a NCAA provisional qualifying mark, which allows him to compete in the post season. The Badgers also swept the 60 meter hurdles, with Freshman Nate Larkin coming in first. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Women's Tennis 

 

 

 

This past weekend, the women's tennis team was in the midst of the Virginia Cavalier Invitational, in which they had some success. On the first day, Junior Caitlin Burke and Senior Lexi Goldin picked up singles wins for the Badgers against Big 10 rival Purdue.  

 

 

 

On the second day, the Badgers went undefeated in doubles play against Purdue. Junior Caitlin Burke and freshman Elizabeth Carpenter won their second match of the tournament. In singles play, the Badgers won two matches against Alabama, including another victory by Caitlin Burke. The Badgers finish their play at Virginia on Monday.
