UW-Madison senior Bobby Lockhart, a member of Wisconsin's men's cross country and track teams, will be in Dane County Circuit Court today facing charges of substantial battery with intended bodily harm, a felony, and disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.
According to the court report, the incident occurred Nov. 23.
Lockhart allegedly got in a fight with a 21-year-old woman on the 10-block of Lathrop street, WISC-TV reported.
Police said Lockhart threw an object at the woman that broke, requiring her to receive stitches.
Lockhart will immediately be suspended from both teams for violating the University of Wisconsin's Student-Athlete Discipline Policy, according to UW Athletic Communications.
If Lockhart does not pursue an appeal, his suspension will continue until charges are settled by the legal system and the school's disciplinary process. If Lockhart does pursue an appeal, the result will be announced when the process is complete.
Lockhart will stay on official team rosters and can still receive service in the sports medicine facility, the academic support center and the weight training room.
