Three UW football players were recently named to SI.com's Second-Team All-America. Junior running back Brian Calhoun, junior offensive lineman Joe Thomas and sophomore punter Ken DeBauche were named to the team.
In his first season for the Badgers, Calhoun rushed for 21 touchdowns, tying a school record, and became the second player in Big Ten history to gain 1,000 yards on the ground and 500 receiving yards. Calhoun was also recently awarded as the Badgers' Most Valuable Player.
Thomas, who was also named as a Rotary Lombardi award finalist, given to the top offensive linemen in the country, was a very important part of the Wisconsin running game. Calhoun's 1,423 yards on the ground were due in large part to Thomas' terrific blocking.
Finally, DeBauche was top in the Big Ten in punting, as well as seventh nationally, with an average of 44.8 yards per punt. DeBauche booted 54 punts for more than 50 yards, and nailed 21 punts inside his opponent's 20-yard line.
Fifty UW athletes were recognized with Academic All-Big Ten honors. Senior defenseman Jessica Ring of women's soccer was the only Badger to sport a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
