Nicole Van Abel and her cat, Treebeard, work hard to dispel myths and rumors about a common feline problem: polydactylism, a disorder in which one or more extra toes are present on one or both (or all four) feet. Since cats do not wear shoes, this is of particular concern to them. 'These cats do not deserve the shame that is put upon them,' Nicole said. 'They are not the devil's helpers.'
