The Madison Police Department spent approximately $349,000 on Halloween 2005, according to MPD spokesman Mike Hanson. In total, government agencies spent approximately $580,000 on the event. According to Hanson, the MPD spent about $8,700 more to police this year's Halloween than it did in 2004.
But according to Ald. Mike Verveer, District 4, the city will not end up spending more money than it did in 2004. 'In 2004 over $250,000 was collected by the city from the fines that were given over Halloween weekend,' he said. 'This year I don't hesitate to think that the city will make $250,000.'
