Mind your morsels with the UW-Madison Dietetic and Nutrition Club

Q: Is there any truth to the negative information about aspartame?

A: No. Negative allegations that aspartame may be associated with ailments are not based on science. Aspartame's safety has been documented in more than 200 objective scientific studies. Its safety has been confirmed by regulatory authorities such as the Food and Drug Administration, American Medical Association, American Dietetic Association and the American Diabetes Association.

As a sweetener, aspartame can reduce or replace the sugar and calories in foods and beverages while maintaining great taste.
