Pipe bomb scares hit downtown parking ramp

Police responded to two separate reports of suspicious objects resembling pipe bombs in a downtown parking ramp last week.  

 

 

 

Last Wednesday at approximately 10:45 p.m., police received a call reporting a suspicious object on the fourth floor of the Capitol Square South Ramp at 113 S. Henry St. Police detonated the object and after further investigation, found it to be non-explosive. 

 

 

 

Police had previously received a report Tuesday at approximately 8:45 a.m. of a suspicious object on the sixth floor of the same ramp.

Officers from the Madison Police Department, Dane County Sheriff's Office and the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Team responded to the scene.  

 

 

 

According to police, the Dane County Sheriff's Explosive Ordinance team 'rendered an explosive device safe.' 

 

 

 

Police said they are investigating the two incidents.
