Everyone's ripping on the police for using pepper spray when the crowd did not start any destructive behavior. But have any of those people tried looking at the situation from the police's point of view?
Do not get me wrong, I was drinking and partying my way down State Street like the rest of Madison until about right before the bars let out. So trust me, I am on the side of the partygoers for most of the arguments.
But when there are past Halloweens with riots, and pepper spray seems to be the only way to get people to go home, it is logical to use pepper spray as a precaution against possible riots and the chaos crazy out-of-towners are trying to start.
As everyone has learned from past Halloweens in Madison, if you do not want to get pepper sprayed, stay away from State Street when the bars let out'??it is pretty simple.
