After scoring six goals in a wild the final peroid of play Wednesday night, the No. 3 Wisconsin women's hockey team (8-1 overall) defeated Minnesota State 7-1 at St. Mary's University in Winona, Minn.
The Mavericks held UW scoreless in the first period, but the Badgers took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission on a power-play goal. They added three more in the third to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Badgers then pulled away as the game wore on, scoring three more goals in the span of under five minutes to close the scoring.
Sophomore forward Jinelle Zaugg scored two goals, including the game-winner, while junior forward Meaghan Mikkelson registered four assists.
For the Mavericks, freshman forward Maggie Fisher scored a power-play goal at 12:51 in the third peroid, her ninth of the season, on a feed from sophomore forward Jodi Helminen.
The game replaced the original contest that had to be postponed on Oct. 22 due to a facility issue at All Seasons Arena.
The Badgers will resume competition again this Friday as they they travel to Minnesota to take on the Golden Gophers.
