Variety of jobs makes Red Cross attractive to grads

As interest in non-profit careers rises, numerous Madison-area non-profit employers have seen a surge in applicants. One such organization is the American Red Cross.

There are numerous opportunities to work with the American Red Cross, and activities range from providing people with transportation; volunteering in homeless shelters, hospitals and senior centers; or with youth and community service programs. These opportunities are offered through local chapters.

More than 600 Red Cross chapters interact with one another at state and national levels to provide disaster relief as well as to promote preparedness.

\We share resources across the nation,"" said Janna Lenz of the American Red Cross Badger Chapter, reinforcing the integration of chapter activities and blood donations nationwide.

While the American Red Cross is not directly affiliated with the U.S. government, it often works with governmental organizations like the Federal Emergency Management Agency in times of serious crisis.

Internationally, the American Red Cross is connected to 180 national societies as well as the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Together these 181 Red Cross societies bring disaster relief to areas all over the world.
