Gov. appoints two new UW Regents

Gov. Jim Doyle announced on May 26 that Michael J. Spector and Judith VanderMeulen Crain will serve on the UW Board of Regents, according to a press release. 

 

 

 

Doyle praised both candidates, noting their vast experience and understanding of educational issues, gleaned from years working in the Wisconsin Public Education System. 

 

 

 

Formerly, Spector served on the Shorewood School Board and the Governor's Task Force for Academic Excellence.

VanderMeulen Crain served on the Green Bay Board of Education and on the Council of Trustees to the Chancellor of UW-Green Bay. 

 

 

 

Both Spector and VanderMeulen Crain received their undergraduate degrees at UW-Madison.  

 

 

 

Spector said he will work for \what is best for the state and the UW System at a difficult time,"" and VanderMeulen Crain pledged to ""ensure the strength of the university system,"" according to the press release. 

 

 

 

The newly-appointed Regents will serve for seven years. According to Gov. Jim Doyle, their terms expire May 1, 2012.
