U.S. Rep. Mark Green, R-Green Bay, is running for governor of Wisconsin.
Green, widely rumored to be considering a gubernatorial run for months, officially entered the race Sunday, saying he intends to \make Wisconsin great again.""
The representative from Wisconsin's eighth Congressional district will challenge Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker in the April 2006 Republican primary for the right to face Gov. Jim Doyle in the November 2006 election. However, Green already seemed to be looking past Walker to Doyle in his remarks Sunday.
""Under Gov. Doyle, taxes are up, spending is up, borrowing is up, debt is up, tuition is up, fees are up, and for lots of folks, hope seems to be on the way down,"" Green said. ""Wisconsin deserves better.""
Green outlined what he sees as the ""Wisconsin way of life.""
""While government didn't create it, misguided government can do it great damage,"" he said. ""I believe that family is the central unit of a healthy society and marriage should be clearly defined in our law. I believe that human life is a gift from God and deserves protection.""
Green has also spent six years in the Wisconsin state Assembly.
Green will tour the state Monday to kick off his campaign.
