On Thursday the Appeals Committee of the UW-Madison Student-Athlete Discipline Policy amended the March 7 suspension of UW-Madison quarterback Marcus Randle El, according to uwbadgers.com.
Randle El was suspended Monday for a violation of the UW-Madison athletic department's Student-Athlete Code of Conduct.
Bruce Jones, chair of the committee, announced officials would apply a softer sentence to Randle El's case.
Unlike the original suspension, which barred him from any athletic participation, the new terms will permit Randle El to return to practice and competition after April 3.
With this date in place, Randle El is expected to be absent for about half of the upcoming football spring training camp.
The Appeals Committee's decision to reduce Randle El's sentence in light of his appeal mirrors its Tuesday decision to ease defensive lineman Gino Cruse's suspension.
The Appeals Committee stated it is prepared to review any as-yet-unseen information in Randle El's case and modify the new sentence accordingly.
