Cell phones will be protected under the Wisconsin no-call list if state Sen. Jon Erpenbach's, D-Middleton, proposal is passed by the Legislature.
Wisconsin law does not currently cover cell phones. The Wisconsin State Journal said Erpenbach's bill would also increase fines from $100 per violation to $10,000 for each infraction a company commits.
This comes as the FCC is mulling a petition from the Consumer Bankers Association to establish a federal no-call law, which would likely weaken Wisconsin's no-call laws.
Gov. Jim Doyle has been urging people to respond to the FCC by commenting at www.datcp.state.wi.us. Doyle said he will do whatever is necessary to keep state law strong.
