Wisconsin Democrats introduced a bill Wednesday that would increase the state's minimum wage from $5.15 an hour to $6.50, according to Wispolitics.com.
The bill calls for the minimum wage, which has not been increased in the state since 1997, to jump to $5.70 an hour immediately upon the bill's passage.
Although it is backed by Gov. Jim Doyle, the bill faces a tough road ahead in the Republican-controlled Legislature. Assembly Speaker John Gard, R-Peshtigo, has said he favors a more modest wage increase and is willing to work with Doyle to reach a compromise, however.
