Two female UW-Madison students were robbed in the early morning hours of Sept. 4, with one sustaining minor injuries, according to statements from the Madison Police Department.
The first robbery occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. on the 500-block of North Pinckney Street According to the release, the victim realized the suspect was following her while she was walking near East Gilman Street. and North Pinckney Street. The release states as the victim proceeded on Pinckney Street, the suspect approached her and tried to take her purse. After a brief struggle, the suspect allegedly pushed the victim to the ground and stole her purse.
Despite minor injuries, the victim did not need medical treatment.
The suspect is described as a white male in his early 20s with brown hair and an average build. He was last seen wearing jeans and a dark T-shirt.
The other robbery occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. on the 600-block of North Henry Street. According to the release, the victim was entering her residence when the suspect approached and grabbed her from behind. The release states the victim tried to free herself, but during the struggle the suspect grabbed the victim's purse and fled the area on foot. The victim was not injured.
Police say the suspect is in his early 20s and has dark brown hair.
\[The robbery] comes as kind of surprising to me,"" said Jacob Bicanich, a UW-Madison senior and Henry Street resident. ""I was under the impression that it was safe around here.""
Lt. Carl Strasburg said he does not know if the two incidents are related, and added police currently have no new information on the case. The suspects are still at-large, he said.
