For the second time in three years, the New England Patriots are the National Football League champions, thanks to kicker Adam Vinatieri.
With four seconds remaining, Vinatieri kicked a 41-yard field goal to propel the New England Patriots to a 32-29 win over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl XXXVIII.
After Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme connected on a 12-yard touchdown pass with wide receiver Ricky Proehl with 1:08 remaining, New England quarterback Tom Brady marched his team back down a short field to set up Vinatieri for the game-winning attempt.
Similar to the composure he showed when defeating the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI, Vinatieri prevailed in the clutch again, despite missing a 31-yard field goal and having a 36-yard attempt blocked earlier in the contest.
Brady was named the game's Most Valuable Player for the second time as he finished the game 32 of 48 for 354 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
