A state jury found John A. Muhammad guilty Tuesday of capital murder, conspiracy and firearms charges in connection with the sniper shootings that killed 10 people in the Washington, D.C. area in 2002, according to The New York Times.
Muhammad and his suspected accomplice, Lee B. Malvo, who is also currently on trial, have been charged with two counts of capital murder, which could result in a death sentence.
Muhammad was only on trial for the murder of 53-year-old Dean H. Meyers, but prosecutors wanted to address evidence of multiple killings to meet requirements of two death penalty laws in Virginia, by which he was sentenced.

The sentencing phase of the trial will last approximately one week.
