Due to a technical error at UW-Madison's Division of Information Technology, 1,800 online ballots from the 2003 Associated Students of Madison fall election were lost, resulting in incomplete election results.
The problem, for which DoIT has taken full responsibility, was discovered after polls closed Thursday, Oct. 16.
ASM rescheduled elections for Nov. 4-6. The voting system only recorded 200 write-in ballots.
UW System President Katharine Lyall sent a letter to the co-chairs of the legislature's Joint Finance Committee asking them to exempt university property from a bill that would allow people to carry concealed weapons.
The JFC will consider the bill today, according to a spokesperson of state Sen. Dave Zein, R- Eau Claire. The bill excludes taverns, churches and K-12 schools and Lyall recommended law makers also include UW System campuses, private colleges and universities and state technical colleges. She said university officials are concerned people would carry concealed weapons in fraternities and sororities also.
The Student Services Finance Committee funded Monday the Greater University Tutoring Service $97,498 of the $100,301 the group requested and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Campus Center almost all of the $52,577 they requested.
During the meeting, members appealed the ruling of Chair Aaron Werner, an unusual act showing a questioning of his judgement. However, the SSFC finally ruled his judgement correct.
