Music Television casting directors are coming to State Street Brats, 603 State St., to find out what happens when people in Madison stop being polite and start getting real.
For many years young adults have been loyal viewers of MTV's \The Real World"" and ""Road Rules."" For the 15th season of ""The Real World,"" and the 13th season of ""Road Rules,"" casting directors are coming to Madison Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to host an open casting call.
Of all cities in the United States, casting directors said they have reasons to hold a casting call in Madison.
""We like to go to some big cities every time we do casting and some college towns. We really like to try to vary up the college towns, and we know that Wisconsin is a great campus with a great student body,"" Casting Director Jason Horowitz said.
Horowitz added he thinks directors chose the right place to host such an event.
""We generally try to find a larger-size bar. We basically want something that the students are going to know where it is, and is gonna be enough to hold a couple hundred people,"" he said.
This is not the first time State Street Brats has hosted an MTV casting call. Horowitz said the MTV casting crew came to Madison for ""The Real Cancun,"" so they said they know there are some interesting and dynamic people at UW-Madison.
Ryan Holker, State Street Brats manager, said the bar welcomes hosting MTV events.
""When we host an MTV event, it gets people inside and creates a fun atmosphere full of excitement that other places don't have,"" Holker said.
Horowitz outlined the characteristics casting directors look for in candidates:
""We generally look for outgoing, dynamic and unique individuals, who are willing and are wanting to share a part of their lives or basically their entire life, with MTV viewers. It's really a combination of a whole bunch of things, and it's a tough thing to find, but that is what we are shooting for,"" he said.
Applicants need to bring a recent picture of themselves and a photo ID and must be between the ages of 18 and 24 to audition.
Emma Hiatt, a UW-Madison junior, said she watches ""The Real World,"" but would not personally feel comfortable being on the show. However, she said she likes the idea that someone from Madison could end up on MTV.
