This semester, I have seen the Madison Police Department give more tickets to bikers who run stop signs than I have ever seen them give to cars running red lights.??I understand that bikes should obey all traffic signs just like cars, but unlike cars, bikes do not travel very fast or weigh hundreds of pounds.??
The MPD should stop targeting bikers and focus on enforcing laws that will actually enhance public safety.??If the MPD really wants to give tickets out, they can stand at Park and University every day and give out about 30,000 tickets to student jay-walkers. The MPD needs to seriously reconsider wasting time citing bikers.
