Police warn hockey enthusiasts

University Police remind all those camping out for hockey tickets in front of the Kohl Center that camping out on university property is punishable by a hefty fine.

Several UW-Madison students who are entering day eight of a ticket vigil said they were threatened by UW Police Monday night and told they could not go to sleep unless they wanted a $181 fine.

Sgt. John Lind of the UW Police said according to university statutes, camping out includes setting up a tent or using sleeping bags overnight.

Lind said police have not and will not crack down on campers, but if they do see violations they could potentially punish offenders with a fine well over $100.
