Heated election debate highlighted the first meeting of the new Associated Students of Madison Student Council Thursday night.
The council elected Austin Evans as chair, Sharon Lee as vice chair and Frank Hernandez as secretary for the next academic year. The three executive board members replace Chair Bryan Gadow, Vice Chair Emily McWilliams and Evans as secretary.
Representatives at Thursday's meeting said they hoped this year's council would be more effective than this past year's, which many said was marred by partisan conflict.
Student Council serves as ASM's main governing body and oversees all the organization's committees and initiatives.
Madison area residents and UW-Madison students who want to spend nine weeks in an exotic hotel with strangers tried out for Fox's new reality dating show, \Paradise Hotel"" Thursday.
Casting director Curt Akerlind, who cast participants for ""Joe Millionaire,"" ""Mr. Personality"" and ""Who Wants to Marry My Dad,"" held an open casting at the Madison Concourse Hotel.
Those who auditioned were required to fill out a questionnaire of personal preferences. Some of the questions included were, ""What is your favorite sexual fantasy?"" and ""Why did you break up with you last significant other?""
Akerlind will be continuing his nationwide search for talent over the next three weeks and the show will start taping in June. The next stop for auditions is in Chicago, Akerlind said.
Akerlind said he was looking for participants with ""the spring-break feel.\
