This Saturday All Campus Party sponsors a free concert at the Memorial Union Terrace, but the show's headlining act, Arrested Development, may be overshadowed by two promising opening bands.
Madison's endearing upbeat rock outfit His and Her Vanities will open with a short set at 2:35 p.m. Although they'll be playing in support of their self-titled album, released last year, their quirky new wave sound is better suited for a live setting.
At 4:15 p.m., the Blood Brothers, a hardcore band, should scare away as many concert attendees as they attract. With their loud guitars and constant shrieking, the Blood Brothers seemingly were designed solely to annoy parents. By incorporating just enough of a spazzy groove into their songs, however, they've managed to generate a large following as well as industry buzz that they may be the next big thing. Many have even questioned the logic of scheduling a band as large as the Blood Brothers so nonchalantly between local artists in the middle of the afternoon.
Even if the booking of All Campus Party's bands strike many as a bit perplexing, the chance to see these promising acts for free should still be too much for Madison's music-loving community to pass up.
