-- Two UW-Madison alumni are at the center of the conflict in Iraq. Saadoon Hammadi, who received his doctorate degree in 1957, is the speaker of Iraq's parliament. Anthony Shadid, who graduated in 1990, is in Baghdad reporting on the war for The Washington Post.
-- President Bush said Sunday the war was just beginning and cautioned that it might take longer than expected.
-- A U.S. Patriot missile battery shot down a British Royal Air Force plane, killing two in the first known friendly fire incident of the war.
-- Authorities identified 101st Airborne Division soldier Sgt. Asan Akbar as the suspect accused of killing a captain and wounding 15 soldiers in his unit by throwing grenades into their tents and shooting at them. Akbar, a Muslim, made anti-American statements after he was apprehended.
