The UW women's hockey team placed third in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Women's Final Five.
The Badgers (14-6-4 WCHA, 22-8-5 overall) lost Friday to Minnesota 3-1. UW junior forward Steph Millar scored the only goal of the game for the Badgers at 9:37 of the first period. The Gophers (19-4-1, 27-6-1) answered back, however, through a first-period goal from freshman forward Natalie Darwitz and two third-period goals courtesy of freshman defender Winny Brodt and junior forward La Toya Clarke. The teams were even in shots, with 31 apiece.
The Badgers bounced back Saturday night with a 4-1 win over Ohio State (8-13-3, 12-22-3) in the third place game.
Wisconsin came alive in the second period, getting goals from senior forwards Kendra Antony and Michelle Sikich.
The Badgers put Ohio State away in the third period with goals from Millar and sophomore forward Amy Vermeulen. The Buckeyes finally got on the board with a goal from sophomore forward Jeni Creary.
Senior goalie Jackie MacMillan made 18 saves in what was probably her last game as a Badger.
