WKOW-TV announced Wednesday new information regarding five UW football players that were accused of cheating on final exams for the past fall semester.
Of the five accused, four are on the defensive side of the ball, according to the report. The report did not specify the fifth player's position.
UW-Madison Chancellor John Wiley is expected to make an announcement regarding the entire matter in the near future. The report hinted that Wiley could release the names of the players involved in the scandal. The report also determined that the players were accused by a UW faculty member of plagiarizing.
The incident originally came to light during the ESPN broadcast of the Alamo Bowl between the University of Colorado and UW on Dec. 29, 2002.
Immediately following the Badger victory in San Antonio, Texas, UW officials quelled any rumors suggesting the incident occurred. UW officials have remained tight-lipped on the matter, refusing to comment on the incident at hand.
This incident serves as the icing on the cake for Wisconsin's football squad, which faced numerous run-ins with the law throughout last fall.
