In a response to concerns generated from the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 of a potential release of small pox in Wisconsin, the state announced its reaction plan Monday to vaccinate all Wisconsin residents.
Under the plan the state would set up 900 vaccination clinics where doctors and others registered to perform vaccinations would receive the first dose before working 24-hour days to assist as many people as possible.
In Madison the centers could be set up at the Alliant Energy Center, 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way, Monona Terrace Convention Center, 1 John Nolen Dr. and numerous high schools.
The program would be voluntary for the disease that was routinely vaccinated against until 1972 in the United States. However, as the disease's occurrence in the population decreased to extremely low levels doctors stopped performing the procedure.
The Division of Public Health in the State Department of Heath and Family Services prepared the report, which was submitted to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention today.
