UW will extend dual admission policy to System schools

UW-Madison is expanding a program which allows students dual admission to the university and UW System schools.

The program, UW-Madison Connections, will expand next fall to include the Madison Area Technical College, the university announced Monday.

Although no residency requirements exist in order to attend a UW Colleges campus, to enroll in the MATC-UW-Madison program, students must be residents of Dane County or have graduated from a Dane County high school.

UW-Madison Connections is in its second year of existence and 85 students have already enrolled in the program.

One incentive for the continued investment of the program is to encourage students who may not have otherwise been admitted to UW-Madison to still be able to study at the university. It comes in part as a response to the growing number of applicants to UW-Madison, such as last year's approximately 21,000 applications.

In addition, MATC President Beverly Simone said in a statement that the program is is one way to retain Dane County residents who may have otherwise studied elsewhere,.

Students enrolled in the UW-Madison Connections program are guaranteed to finish their undergraduate degrees at UW-Madison after completing two years at their UW Colleges campus.

Wisconsin has 13 UW Colleges campuses.
