The city council may reignite discussion on the smoking ban tonight, but the alder who moved to reconsider the ordinance said afterwards she may regret trying to create more dialogue.
Ald. Brenda Konkel, District 2, made a motion last week to re-consider the smoking-ban ordinance, which bans smoking beginning in 2006 in restaurants that make less than 50 percent of their sales from alcohol.
Konkel said she had hoped there would be enough votes on the council to kill the smoking-ban ordinance and start over with a new one, but after talking to her colleagues she began to doubt the plan's success.
\I can't withdraw the motion at this point, but I'm considering urging people just to not vote for the reconsideration, let the ordinance stay as is, and then we'll try and go back and fix the problems later,"" Konkel said.
