UW-Madison students had the lowest Federal Perkins Loan default rate of those at any Big Ten school for the third consecutive year, according to Purdue University.
While Perkins loans are provided by the federal government, they are billed through the UW-Madison Bursar's Office. UW-Madison's default rate for 2001-'02 was 2.35 percent, one-third of a percentage point lower than any other Big Ten school.
\This is a credit to UW-Madison's ability to enroll excellent students and give them the training and preparation they need to find good employment after graduation,"" said Steve Van Ess, director of the Office of Student Financial Services.
