Republicans grab state Senate

In the midst of caucus scandal accusations and investigations into campaign practices by some key Democrats, the Republicans won the majority of the state Senate Tuesday, holding 17 seats to the Democrats' 16.

The results came after Republican candidate Ron Brown ousted incumbent Sen. Rod Moen, D-Whitehall, from the 31st district position.

Prior to the election the Democrats had an 18 to 15 majority in the Senate.

In addition to Brown's victory, another Republican, Kathy Stepp, also defeated Sen. Kim Planch, D-Racine, in the 21st district.

Republicans also maintained their majority in the state Assembly.
