In regard to Eric Kleefeld's opinion on the Democratic party's defeat [\Wisdom in victory and defeat,"" Nov. 7, 2002], he needs to dig deeper.
Why did popular Democrats like Sen. Max Cleland, D-Ga., lose? Why did other sure Democrats lose at the last moment? And many of us Philadelphians (myself being a native Madisonian) question the death of Sen. Paul Wellstone and Sen.-elect Mel Carnahan a few years back. Their seats inexplicably went to Republicans.
Even with Bush's stolen win two years ago, Democrats were declared winners and suddenly their wins evaporated.
Yes, the Democrats need to grow some balls, but the ones that do, like Rep. Cynthia McKinney, D-Ga., get railroaded for questioning Bush's tactics, or Wellstone, well, we know what happened to him. Anyone who gets in Bush's way somehow gets removed from the scene. Now wealth and power have no roadblocks.
Look deep, look very deep.
