Candidates in Wisconsin's gubernatorial race spent $17 million, setting a record more than double the last race's $8 million according to State Election Board reports.
When broken down to cost per vote Republican Gov. Scott McCallum spent $10 per vote and $7.4 million total, while governor-elect state Attorney General Jim Doyle spent $6.75 per vote, or $5.4 million.
The two third-party candidates, Libertarian Ed Thompson and Green Party nominee Jim Young, spent $2.21 and $0.51 per vote, respectively.

Democratic primary candidates U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett, D-Milwaukee, Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk and state Sen. Gary George, D-Milwaukee spent more than $4,300,000.
