The women's soccer team (13-9-3 overall) made it past the Marquette Golden Eagles 3-2 Friday night in Milwaukee but fell to No. 5 Pepperdine 2-1 in overtime Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Against Marquette, Wisconsin sophomore forward Amy Vermeulen, sophomore midfielder Molly Meuer and senior forward Jessica Wolff put points on the board.
The Badgers could not get past No. 5 Pepperdine Saturday, however. Wisconsin maintained a 1-0 lead for most of the game, as Wolff scored her final goal as a Badger early in the first period. Pepperdine scored with only two minutes left in the game to knot it at 1-1 and send the game into overtime. Pepperdine scored in the final 30 seconds of overtime to kick UW out of the NCAA Tournament. In her final game, senior goaltender Kelly Conway had eight saves.
The men's hockey team (1-3-0 Western College Hockey Association, 5-5-0 overall) earned its first WCHA win over the University of Minnesota-Duluth Saturday, 2-1 in overtime. However, the Badgers lost to UMD (3-3-2, 3-4-3) Friday 4-1 to split the series.
Freshman defenseman Tom Gilbert hit freshman center A.J. Degenhardt for Wisconsin's only score Friday night. Senior goaltender Scott Kabotoff had 26 saves. UW suffered on the power play, going 0-8.
Saturday, freshman forward Ryan MacMurchy scored UW's first goal after a scoreless 40 minutes. Senior wing Erik Jensen scored the overtime goal to take the game for the Badgers. Sophomore goaltender Bernd Bruckler had 21 saves.
The No. 6 women's hockey team (1-4-1 WCHA, 7-4-1 overall) defeated No. 10 Mercyhurst Saturday 3-2 and Sunday 4-2. Sophomore forward Jackie Friesen, junior forwards Steph Millar and Kathryn Greaves and Karen Rickard all had goals this weekend.
