Halloween will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 31.
That is the official Madison Police Department position, according to Public Information Officer Larry Kamholz.
Normally the Saturday before Halloween, this year's celebration is so close to the following weekend that confusion has insued as which date to party on.
Kamholz said police met with a number of groups and discovered there was no preference as to when the festivities should take place.
\We did a lot of talking with various groups and student bodies,"" he said. ""Some wanted it the [Saturday] before because of daylight saving time and they get that extra hour and some wanted it after. I think everybody is up in the air trying to figure when this is going to happen.""
The police will have additional personnel on Halloween and will also close off streets Thursday night in anticipation of a large crowd.
""We got the sense it didn't really matter and a lot of people were going to go out dressed up on Halloween,"" Amholtz said. [Thursday] is the best time for anyone to get involved.\
