Trust me, it's for the best

Change. The start of a new school year at UW-Madison brings forth inevitable change: saying goodbye to graduated friends, moving from one crappy apartment to another, memorizing a totally foreign class schedule and switching from hefeweissen to pilsner.

Since you're already altering so many other things in your chaotic student lives, would it really be that difficult if I encouraged you to do one more thing a little differently this year?

I hope not, because this humble writer's goal is nothing other than to totally revolutionize the way you cook at home and eat out.

Before I acquaint you any further with my devious plans, I suppose you should know a little bit about me so you know where I'm coming from.

I am currently a super-duper senior (in my sixth year at the UW in case you are counting). Although I consider myself to be an \older"" undergraduate, I am by no means crotchety or set in my ways.

The ability to keep my life free from routine has been just about the only thing that has preserved my sanity. If I still lived in UW housing and ate Ramen, I am sure I would end up a has-been student, five credits away from graduation but spending my entire waking life acting out scenes from ""Fried Green Tomatoes"" at the Madison Metro West Transfer Point.

This is why I hope to help you, the Econ 101-studying, Banana-Republic-clad guy from Highland Park, Ill., as well as you, the nice girl from Elkhorn, Minn., looking for the bubbler, and even you too, the fella waiting for tickets to Neko Case, with the perfectly-messed-up hair, $4 t-shirt and $200 shoes.

Yes, every single one of us can benefit from a dynamic lifestyle, even if it means changing the way we eat.

Do not fear difficulty in altering your eating routine. I will provide all the necessary directions on how to get to Madison's exotic locales. In addition, I promise my recipes will be cheap, easy and delicious.

Now, wouldn't it be nice, instead of walking down State Street for the umpteenth time, to take a nice walk someplace new and different? Somewhere exotic?

Don't you think you'd rather cook something tasty for a change?

If you answered no, pay no more attention. I hear Taco Bell is open late. Enjoy.

However, if you answered yes, I hope you will continue to read my pathetic little column for the rest of the year. Your palate and psyche will both thank you.
