Nearly 250 mayors attended the 70th Annual U.S. Conference of Mayors, which focused on solving problems experienced by a majority of American cities including the dearth of affordable housing, homeland security and quality public education.
Protesters flocked to the city to demonstrate against the largest gathering of mayors in the country.
The price tag for hosting the conference ended up at approximately $2 million.

Downtown businesses were disappointed with the immediate financial impact of the conference, as the 900 plus registered guests failed to spend money in many of the area stores.
Madison Mayor Sue Bauman said the benefits of the conference would appear further down the road.
