The Rev. Ron Greer emerged as the victor over Phil Alfonsi in the Republican primary race for Wisconsin's second Congressional District seat, carrying 61 percent of the vote with 100 percent of the votes tallied.
The district includes all of Dane County.
\This reaffirms what I learned over 20 years in talking to people in the district,"" Greer said late Tuesday night, according to the Associated Press. ""One thing you find out is that people want you to speak straight to them, and take a stand.""
Greer now faces a battle against the Democratic incumbent, U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, who ran unopposed in the primary and has held her post since her first victory in 1998.
""I don't feel worried,"" Baldwin said. ""I feel proud of how hard I've worked for my constituents.""
Despite the loss, Alfonsi will now throw his support behind Greer according to Julia Kraschnewski, communications director for Alfonsi's campaign.
""They were pretty similar in policy positions,"" Kraschnewski said. ""He wishes Ron the best of fortunes and he is supporting Ron in his fight against Tammy Baldwin.\
