The Memorial Union was evacuated last night at 9 p.m. due to what appeared to be a bomb threat. UW-Madison police cleared the building and closed Langdon Street to traffic.
The main entrance to the building was taped off an hour later as police and dogs began to sweep the building.
Students had to leave photos processing in the darkroom, food sitting in the deli and one student left her inhaler as officials made the small group of occupants move to the fountain in Library Mall for safety measures. The Union reopened at 11 p.m.
\It's been a long while since there's been a bomb threat here. I've never stood out here this long either,"" Dan Genthe, a custodian at the Union for more than 16 years, said.
An official UW-Madison Police report was unavailable as of press time.
