Police chase on I-94 leads to shooting

A police chase on Interstate 94, which ended in the shooting of the motorist avoiding the police, caused a massive traffic jam and shut down the highway Wednesday night.

The pursuit originated in Oconomowoc and turned south and then east onto I-94. Police then laid spike strips between the intersections of I-94 with county Highway SS and state Highway 83.

After the car stopped, the driver got out of the vehicle and fired multiple shots at the police officers on the scene, promoting the authorities to return fire, wounding the individual, according to Detective Steve Pederson of the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department.
