Two things that make the UW-Madison student body powerless on campus are apathy toward voting and letting our student government, ASM, embarrass us all. If 10 percent of the student body voted, unfortunately that would be considered a good year. Many people around the world fight and suffer just to vote; we just need to move our finger. Even if you don't know anyone who is running for ASM, go and look at their platforms online and choose one. It is our right and responsibility to vote in elections.
When ASM increases their own budget drastically, how do you expect the administration, the Board of Regents or the state Legislature to take us seriously? Only in ASM is a \cut"" defined as increasing budgets by over 100 percent, then ""cutting"" that amount by 6 percent. When politicians do these tricks, they expect a pat on the back for making a so-called ""tough cut.""
The Badger Party has pledged to cut tuition by reducing seg fees, preserving drink specials and fighting for a 24-hour library. Any trained chimp can sit there and vote to increase spending, but leaders make tough, informed decisions. Please exercise your right to vote by 8 p.m. today.
