The commencement of a multicultural living area, previously set to open this fall on the second floor of Witte Residence Hall, has been delayed until 2003, with officials citing a need to attract more students.
Larry Davis, assistant residence life director for residential education, said university officials had notified students who had applied to live in the new learning community and would help them find appropriate housing.
The idea for a multicultural living center originated from several UW-Madison students who wanted to create an environment that would foster cultural and ethnic understanding.
\Although we're disappointed the MLC program won't be ready for this fall, we continue to be very enthusiastic about launching a community to explore issues of ethnicity, race, gender and class,"" Davis said in a statement.
