Wisconsin is widening the economic gap, according to a report released yesterday showed the state is increasing the difference between the incomes of its wealthy and poor constituents.
The study done by the Center on Wisconsin Strategies and Wisconsin Council on Children and Families showed that from the 1970s to 1990s the incomes of the poorest sector of Wisconsin citizens rose just 3 percent, while the richest individual's incomes spiked 38 percent according to data collected from the U.S. Census.
Wisconsin bucked the national trend towards a smaller income gap, something Anee Arnesen, executive director of the Wisconsin Council on Children and Families told the Capital Times she finds troubling.
\That is especially disturbing for Wisconsin's children, as their opportunities and economic circumstances drift farther apart,"" she said.
