Bus passengers will benefit from a reduction in services and altered routes, which will save Madison Metro $800,000, according to Metro General Manager Catherine Debo.
The service changes are a result of forward planning done by the department to prepare for possible cuts in funding from the state government following Gov. Scott McCallum's budget reform proposal in February.
\A lot of these savings are related to improvements in efficiencies in the transit system,"" Debo said. ""We had been in the process of planning these route improvements when the whole issue came up about cuts.""
There will be an informational meeting at 5 p.m. today to discuss the alterations before a public hearing on the same issue is heard by the City Parking and Transit Commission at 6 p.m. tonight in room 260 of the Madison Municipal Building, 215 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
