Wisconsin senators to oppose nomination

U.S. Democratic Sens. Russ Feingold and Herb Kohl said Tuesday they will oppose a controversial Bush administration nominee to a U.S. Appeals Court when the nomination comes before the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday.

The Associated Press reported that Wisconsin's two Democratic senators will oppose the nomination of Judge Charles Pickering to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, which serves Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

The Judiciary Committee is stacked 10-9 in favor of Democrats, and both Feingold and Kohl said they will not vote for the judge, who has faced criticism from women's, civil rights and liberal groups in the appeals court nomination struggle.
