To offer his expertise on hurricanes and their development, Christopher Velden, an atmospheric scientist at UW-Madison, will appear on the Discovery Channel series titled \Billion Dollar Disasters"" tonight.
Velden works at the Cooperative Institute for Meterological Satellite Studies, which tracks, among other things, hurricane action across the globe.
""Our group here is one of the leaders in the world for satellite-based research of hurricanes,"" Velden said.
Hurricane action almost always shows up on the radar, Velden said.
He will speak specifically on the scientific background leading up to Hurricane Floyd, which struck the Bahamas and the eastern United States in September 1999.
""Billion Dollar Disasters: Hurricane Floyd"" will air tonight at 10 p.m., Tuesday at 2 a.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m.
